Mission Statement:
The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson is designed to provide local waterparks, community pools and other aquatic facilities with an event that draws attention to this issue, encourages participation in swimming lesson programs and helps spread the word that Swimming Lessons Save Lives.
Overview:
The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson is a promotional event designed to build awareness and generate local and national press attention about the vital importance of teaching kids to swim to help prevent drowning.
WLSL is being presented by a coalition of the nation’s leading water safety and training organizations including: Association of Pool and Spa Professionals, International Swimming Hall of Fame, International Swim Instructors Association, Independent Pool and Spa Service Association, Jeff Ellis & Associates, National Aquatic Safety Company, National Recreation and Parks Association, Starfish Aquatics Institute, Swim For Life Foundation, United States Swim School Association and the World Waterpark Association.
World Record
On June 18th 2013, The World’s Largest Swim Lesson organization successfully achieved a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORD for the largest simultaneous swimming lesson! WLSL had 32,450 participants hosted by 432 facilities in 13 countries. This was a 30% increase over last year’s (2012) record of 24,873 participants.
